Breathing New Life into a Mid-Century Gem: A Fort Collins Kitchen Transformation

January 19, 20263 min read

When we first stepped into this Fort Collins home, it was clear the space had good bones: classic mid-century lines, great natural light, and a layout full of potential. The challenge (and the opportunity) was to honor the home’s character while bringing it fully into modern life. That’s where thoughtful design, layered materials, and close collaboration made all the difference.

A Modern Take on Mid-Century

Designed by Jenny Morrow, this kitchen update was all about balance. Clean lines meet warmth. Subtle texture meets bold contrast. Instead of relying on one finish or one statement color, we intentionally mixed surfaces and tones to create depth and visual interest, a design approach that feels curated, not trendy.

Why We Chose FENIX

One of the standout elements in this kitchen is the use of FENIX materials. Known for their ultra-matte finish, soft-touch feel, and durability, FENIX surfaces bring a refined, modern edge while still feeling approachable and livable. They’re fingerprint-resistant, easy to maintain, and ideal for a space that’s meant to be used every day not just admired.

Paired with complementary textures and warmer finishes, the FENIX cabinetry helps anchor the space while letting other design details shine.

Layering Color, Texture & Function

This project is a great example of how mixing materials can elevate a kitchen without overwhelming it. We blended light and dark tones, smooth and textured surfaces, and warm and cool finishes to create contrast and flow throughout the space. The result is a kitchen that feels intentional from every angle, cohesive, but never flat.

A True Collaboration with the Homeowner

At Concept 32, we believe the best designs come from listening. This homeowner had a clear vision for how they wanted to live in the space, and our job was to translate that into smart, functional design decisions. Through detailed conversations, thoughtful planning, and a lot of back-and-forth, we shaped a kitchen that reflects their lifestyle not just a design trend.

Tying It All Together with FINE LINES Appliances

No kitchen is complete without the right appliances, and our long-standing relationship with FINE LINES Appliances allowed us to seamlessly integrate high-performance pieces that support both the design and the functionality of the space. Their team collaborated closely with us to ensure every selection worked beautifully within the cabinetry and overall layout, no awkward fits, no compromises.
