Some kitchens are designed to follow trends. Others are designed to reflect the people who call them home.

This Southmoor neighborhood kitchen in Denver is firmly in the second category.

Built in 1968, this Mid-Century Modern home belongs to two teachers whose eclectic style carries throughout the house. When it came time to remodel the kitchen, they wanted something that felt unmistakably theirs. Our designer, Emily, worked with the homeowners to bring that vision to life through custom cabinetry, unexpected color combinations and details throughout.

Natural oak, deep green, and a little surprise

The cabinetry pairs Kronospan Slavonia Oak with Smoke Green, creating a balance of natural warmth and rich, understated color. But the details are where this kitchen really comes alive. Curved floating shelves soften the lines of the design, reeded glass cabinet doors add texture and visual interest, and playful Native Pink interiors bring an unexpected pop of color when drawers and cabinets are opened.

Behind the beautiful finishes is plenty of function, too. Custom storage inserts, our birch dovetail drawer boxes, and carefully planned cabinetry make the kitchen as practical as it is distinctive.

And then there's the floor. The bold terracotta-and-cream checkerboard tile makes a statement all on its own, proving that a great design doesn't have to play it safe.

A kitchen that's uniquely theirs

When we visited the home to film the finished kitchen, we were struck by how well everything came together. Every choice, from the finishes to the smallest interior detail, contributes to a space that feels cohesive while still being full of personality. Today we're sharing a few photos from our visit.
